Nana's Pepperoni Rolls!


My mother has been making these Pepperoni Rolls since her grandchildren were little.  We all love them, but honestly, she makes them for the grandchildren.  They are really easy to make and they go great with spaghetti or other pasta dishes or even soups.   Wouldn't these be great with a big bowl of
Pasta Fagioli?   They are also good for just a snack and while they are best hot from the oven, they reheat well also.  Your teenagers will love them! 

Here is what you will need for these:

1 loaf frozen bread dough, thawed
1 (15 oz.)  jar or can of pizza sauce
pepperoni slices (about 1/2 of a 7 oz. pkg)
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
oil for coating baking pan


 Cut the thawed loaf of bread dough into 8 equal pieces across.  Coat a large pizza pan or cookie sheet with vegetable oil.  Take each piece of bread dough and press it into a circle.  Place 1 Tablespoon pizza sauce in the middle.  On top of the pizza sauce place 5-6 slices of pepperoni.


Cover with mozzarella cheese.


Pull the dough up and pinch it together to seal in sort of a little purse.


Turn them all over seam side down, making sure all sides are lightly coated in oil.  Put the pan in a warm, draft free place for about 2 hours to allow these to rise.  They will almost double in size, so be sure to place them far enough apart on the baking sheet.  



 When they have risen, place them in a preheated 350 degree oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until nice and brown on top.  Heat the remainder of the pizza sauce for dipping.

  1. These sound wonderful! A little deli where we used to live sold pepperoni rolls that were so good, and I've always wished I had a recipe. I'm going to have to try these!

  2. I am from West virginia and we make pepperoni rolls in cylinders similar to hot dog buns. We do like them plain, but sometimes after baking we add hot dog sauce (home made of course), peppers canned in tomato sauce and shredded mazarella or provolone cheese and reheat to melt cheese. Some places make the pepperoni buns as large as subway sandwiches.

  5. I don't sauce on inside
    Ive used saugage and pepperoni together with cheese and dipping sauce my kids love them and good with a salad
    Sounds like dinner tonight YUM

  7. I made these but they didnt quite come out right. My husband still really liked them! I couldn't find frozen french bread dough so I used refrigerated French bread dough. Does anyone know where you can buy frozen French bread dough?

  8. I bought a 3 loaf Rhoades bread dough. Put one in fridge night before and made these about 2 pm next day. Cut the dough into eight pieces and had a hard time getting the dough to stretch out and stay that way. Any ideas why? I ended up putting two of the dough pieces together and still had trouble but we did make four pepperoni rolls and they were very good. Maybe my dough loaf was too small? Thanks for any help. I thought next time I might make some dough in my bread machine and use that.

  9. I use just frozen roll dough, like Bridgeford or even Kroger brand. Let it thaw, then pat it or roll it out into a small circle, but cheese, then pepperoni on, and then pull up edges. Let rise and bake! Hubby loves them for watching ballgames!

  10. I've only had pepperoni rolls when visiting in WV. They make them in bakeries, the stores, etc. and there are sauces you can purchase to dip the rolls in. They're delicious!

  12. I've found that the colder the dough is the harder it is to stretch out and get it to stay.

  14. I have made these a million times using a variety of dough methods. Homemade dough is absolutely the best but us working girls need don't always have time for homemade dough.
    The easiest way that I have found is using Rhoade's frozen dinner rolls as my dough. Thaw for about 3 hours on the kitchen counter and then you can stretch them in your hand, stuff with goodies (pepperoni and cheese only for me) and the bake on oiled baking sheet - to get a fuller roll, link two of the dinner rolls together and fill and then roll. These ones look more like a weiner bun than a dinner roll. Either way, Pepperoni rolls are amazing! Happy cooking!

  16. I make rolls like this only I use ground pepperoni, green chilie peppers,& mozerella cheese!! So good with pasta!!

  17. I made these with homemade pizza dough and sauce.
    I chop up the pepperoni instead of leaving the slices whole.
